Enactus Northumbria Wins Rookie Champion Title at the 2017 Enactus UK National Competition

Having spent two days competing at the Enactus UK 2017 National Expo, we are proud to announce that we have been crowned the Rookie Champion 2017! A fantastic achievement for our team.

Each year thousands of student’s flock to the ExCeL London to compete in the Enactus UK annual competition. The Enactus teams create a 17-minute presentation, where they showcase what they have been doing over the year. The Enactus Judges, a mix of some of the top UK Graduate Employers, top business leaders and Enactus Alumni, see which team has best used entrepreneurial action to empower lives, in an environmentally, socially and sustainable way.

This year we took two of our project to the competition, Soup Stories an exciting new food enterprise which aims to give refugees the confidence to start up their own businesses, through selling soup.

The second project being Second Coat, a project which aims to reduce the re-offending rate in the North-East, by providing employment for ex-offenders through painting and decorating.

Having only founded Enactus Northumbria a year ago, what we have achieved in such a short space of time is mind-blowing. Having gone from just 3 founders to now 27 entrepreneurs, working on 2 social projects and 1 commercial enterprise, we can proudly say that we have directly impacted the lives of 3 individuals. These projects are helping to achieve 5 of the 17 United Nations Sustainability Goals. Next year we are looking to grow our projects and also launch a new international project out in Morocco. Congratulations to all the competing team!
