Enactus Northumbria Take Regionals by Storm

Ellie Biggs

For all of you who are new to Enactus, you probably can see from our blogs and website that we’re all for social enterprise.  Enactus is such a vast organisation; every year teams come together from universities all over the UK, to celebrate the work their teams have done over the Enactus year at the National competition in April. This is the BIGGEST event for UK teams to really showcase their team and projects, there are prizes and the overall winning team goes on to compete with teams world wide at the World Cup.

All the talk of awards and presentations would imply intense, ‘Glee’ type competitiveness, however our founding members attended the event last year and were overwhelmed by the community, family feel of the competition. Every team roots for each other, admiring the work put into each project, it was so amazing to experience!

To get to the national competition, experienced teams first compete at the regional heats  to get through.  As we’re in our first year as a team, Enactus Northumbria is a Rookie team and gets through to the national competition to compete in the Rookie league automatically. Our team has worked hard over the past month to get ready to present to a judging panel of Enactus UK staff, alumni and business advisors at Regionals. This was a fantastic opportunity to get in some real practice, instead of in front of the mirror, and receive useful feedback to put into our National competition preparation.

After many late nights and script redrafts, our presenting team made their journey to ASDA MCE, full of nerves and excitement. Despite a few technical hiccups (they always add character right?) the presentation went well and the team were overwhelmed by the feedback received. The experience has given our team focus and direction moving forward to the ever-approaching National Expo in April.

We hope you’re all rooting for us!
